India Travel Guide

When to go, what not to miss, and how to travel India well — from the Taj Mahal and Rajasthan's forts to Kerala's backwaters, Kashmir's valleys and the tigers of the central jungles.

India is not one trip — it is a dozen. The marble of the Taj Mahal and the pink palaces of Jaipur; the houseboats of Kashmir and the tea hills of Munnar; tiger safaris in Ranthambore and the dawn prayers on the Ganges at Varanasi. It rewards the traveller who picks a thread and follows it, rather than trying to see everything at once.

It is also where Five A began — India is the country we know best, and the one our travellers return to most. This is the short version of what we tell them before they go.

Best time to go

October – MarchThe classic season. Cool, dry days across the north — the Golden Triangle, Rajasthan and Varanasi are at their best. Peak months are December–January.
April – JuneHot on the plains, but the season for the hills: Kashmir's meadows, Darjeeling and Sikkim, and the tail of the tiger-safari season before the reserves close.
July – SeptemberThe monsoon. Green and quiet, with lower prices; Kerala and the south are atmospheric, though some hill roads and parks close.

What not to miss

The Taj Mahal & Golden TriangleDelhi, Agra and Jaipur — the classic first trip, and rightly so.

VaranasiThe Ganga Aarti by firelight and a sunrise boat ride along the ghats.

Visas & entry

Most Malaysian and international travellers need a visa or e-Visa for India, and many people of Indian origin travel on an OCI card. We advise on the right route and process both end to end.

Practical tips

  • Distances are long — internal flights save days over trains and roads on a first visit.
  • Pack modest layers for temples and a scarf; mornings and hill stations get cool even in season.
  • Carry a little cash for tips and small purchases, alongside a card.
  • Tell us your pace — India can be intense; we build in rest days where they matter.
