Firefly is adding flights over the year-end holidays and Chinese New Year — Subang to Langkawi, Penang, Terengganu and Singapore — and between Firefly and Malaysia Airlines we can cover your whole festive map. Here are the dates that matter, and why the time to book is now.
There are two times of year when half of Malaysia is trying to be somewhere else at once — the year-end holidays and Chinese New Year — and in both, the flight is the first thing to sell out. The reunion back home, the island break before the office reopens, the cousins flying in from Singapore: everyone wants the same few seats on the same few days. So here is some welcome news, and a small piece of advice that comes with it.
Firefly is adding festive flights
Firefly has put on extra services over both peaks, flown from its Subang base — the city-side Kuala Lumpur airport that is far quicker and calmer than KLIA for a short domestic hop.
Over Christmas, on 27 and 28 December 2026, there are additional Subang–Langkawi flights in both directions — FY6126 out to the island and FY6127 back — the easiest way onto Langkawi for a year-end escape.
Over Chinese New Year, in early February 2027, the extra flights reach further. Subang–Langkawi runs on 8 February (FY6126 out, FY6127 back). Subang–Kuala Terengganu runs on 4 February (FY6256 and FY6257). Subang–Penang runs on 5 February (FY6430 and FY6431). And Subang–Seletar in Singapore runs on the 4th, 5th and 8th (FY6304 out, FY6305 back). For anyone heading home for the reunion, or bringing family across from Singapore, those are exactly the dates that matter.

And Malaysia Airlines is adding far more
Firefly handles the short hops; Malaysia Airlines is opening up festive seats right across its domestic network, and the list is long. Over Christmas, the extra flights reach deep into Sabah and Sarawak — Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Sibu, Sandakan, Miri, Labuan and Tawau — alongside Langkawi, Penang and Kota Bharu, spread through December and into the first days of January. Over Chinese New Year, the map lights up again for the reunion: Alor Setar, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Bintulu, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Sandakan and Tawau, clustered around the first two weeks of February.
If your hometown or your getaway is anywhere on these lists, those are the extra seats to reach for. Here is the full schedule, straight from Malaysia Airlines.

Why extra flights still fill
An extra service sounds like breathing room, and it is — but only for a while. Festive seats are the scarcest of the year, and extra flights on peak dates fill almost as quickly as the scheduled ones. The difference between a comfortable fare and an airport scramble is rarely the airline; it is how early you booked. If your dates are anywhere near these, the time to hold a seat is now, not in December.
One team, both airlines
Between Firefly and Malaysia Airlines — all of the above, plus Malaysia Airlines' full international network besides — we can cover your whole festive map, and arrange it on a single booking. The short hop to the island, the flight home for the reunion, the long-haul holiday while the office is shut: one conversation, both airlines, and the seats held before the rush.
Tell us where you need to be this festive season — home or away — and we will lock in the flights while there are still good ones to lock in.
