Deepavali above the clouds: Malaysia Airlines' festive menu this November

Malaysia Airlines has added a Deepavali festive special to its November menu — a vegetarian Rogan Josh, a gentle nod to the Kashmiri classic, with saffron pulao up front and steamed rice in Economy, on selected Kuala Lumpur–New Zealand flights all month. A little Festival of Lights, above the clouds.

Deepavali has a way of turning up in the loveliest places — and this year, even at 38,000 feet. Malaysia Airlines has added a festive special to its November menu: a Deepavali meal inspired by the kitchens of the Indian subcontinent, aromatic and slow-cooked, served above the clouds.

What's on the festive tray

The star is a vegetarian Rogan Josh — a gentle nod to the Kashmiri classic, reimagined meat-free for the festival. In the Business Suite and Business Class it comes with fragrant saffron pulao; in Economy, the same vegetarian Rogan Josh is served with steamed rice, comforting and full of flavour. It's the warmth of a Deepavali table, brought on board.

Where and when

You'll find it on selected flights on the Kuala Lumpur–New Zealand sectors, right through November (the 1st to the 30th). So if your travels this month take you down to Auckland or back, there's a festive little something waiting on the tray — "Deepavali, above the clouds", as the airline nicely puts it.

A small, lovely touch

We have a soft spot for details like this. A good festive meal on a long flight is more than food — it's a little piece of home and a little bit of celebration when you're far from both. If you're flying over Deepavali, keep an eye out for it. And from all of us at Five A, happy Deepavali.
